A consistent at-home oral hygiene routine.
Regular cleanings and checkups, are essential for your long-term oral health.
In addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing and examination of your teeth, we take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits, at home. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine where needed. We will make suggestions for preventative measures such as dental sealants or nightguards or bite splints to protect against bruxism (tooth grinding) or TMJ problems. If you are suffering from gingivitis or more severe gum disease, we may recommend scaling and root planning. These measures can prevent further bone loss and help you keep your natural teeth.
Prevention First
At United Dentist, we believe in prevention first! It’s always better to prevent problems from occurring than it is to deal with them once they exist.
• Teeth, gums and soft tissue exams
• Jaw joints (occlusion) exam
• Digital x-rays
• Scaling & root planning (teeth cleanings)
• Cavity prevention treatment (fluoride, desensitizers, oral hygiene instruction)
Gum Disease & Prevention
Gum disease occurs when a buildup of bacteria and plaque cause the gums to become inflamed, swollen and red. Gingivitis is the mildest form of this disease and can be fairly easily reversed with good oral hygiene. In its more advanced stages, gum disease may require more intensive intervention, and even surgery. As gum disease progresses, you may notice some of these symptoms:
• Sore, swollen gums
• Discolored gums: red or purple
• Receding gumline
• Bleeding gums
• Persistent bad breath
