Biography

Dr. Mike Hira’s entry into dentistry is not your typical story.  Since he was young, his father (an electrician and construction contractor) had trained him in the family business of building homes.  When Dr. Hira reached high school, his new interest became science and medicine. He changed his pursuit to become a doctor.  He studied Biochemistry at UBC. He spent weekends and summers doing electrical and plumbing for his father and weekdays studying.  It wasn’t until he was invited by his sister, who is a Certified Dental Assistant, to come shadow at her dental office that Dr. Hira fell in love with the practice of dentistry.  He shifted all his endeavors and began to pursue his new dream.

Dr. Mike Hira studied Dentistry at Case Western University, in Cleveland Ohio.  He was awarded the Dean’s award for academic excellence.  This is where he met Dr. Son. After completing their degree in dentistry, Dr. Son & Dr. Hira decided to practice together in Abbotsford, BC.  The rest is history.

Dr. Hira practices General Dentistry but enjoys all modalities of dentistry.  He especially enjoys endodontics, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and full mouth rehabilitations.  He is currently fascinated with incorporating digital dentistry into the dental practice with digital scanning and printing techniques.  He has completed a 2 year post-graduate diploma in Orthodontics. He was also the game dentist for the Vancouver Giants (WHL hockey team) where he treated players for sports injuries and trauma.

Dr. Hira still enjoys construction.  He is a true DIY’er which can be demonstrated by the various projects that his wife assigns for him to do around the house.  With two children of his own, Dr. Hira enjoys working with children and helping promote life-long dental health.  Come visit him for all your dental needs and share a good laugh with him.
